What is Dual Track?

It is an approach that combines product discovery with its delivery simultaneously.

🔍

Definition

A project management approach that combines the iterative and flexible nature of Agile by separating upstream and downstream activities.

🔄

Origin

The concept of Dual Track was first mentioned in 2005 by Lynn Miller, with further elaboration by Desirée Sy in 2007, and formalized as 'Dual-Track Agile' by Marty Cagan and Jeff Patton in 2012.

👁️

Discovery

During the upstream phase, a part of the team, generally including the Product Owner and team members with User Experience (UX) roles, focuses on understanding user needs, prototyping, and testing solutions before proceeding with development.

🚀

Execution

During the downstream, developers materialize the ideas from discovery into product increments.

🤝

Synchronization

Both tracks work in parallel, aiming to synchronize their efforts to ensure a sustainable and efficient workflow.
